We began as The City & County Municipal Federal Credit Union on February 12, 1940.  It began in the basement of the Ward County Courthouse.  The initial field of membership served the employees of the City of Minot, Ward County, members of their immediate families and organizations of such persons.  At the first meeting, 39 new members signed up.  Monthly board meetings were held a the old pump station on 5th Avenue NW.  The first annual meeting was held January 1941 with 27 members present.

In February 1965, the credit union moved it's office to a new location and began to operate with a full-time manager/treasurer.  The credit union name was changed to G E M Federal Credit Union on December 1, 1970.  In 1979, we moved into our current location on Central Avenue.

With all of the changes came expansion of services, specific credit union training, and increased involvement in credit union affiliated organizations.

In February 2010, G E M Federal Credit Union celebrated it's 70th Anniversary as a "member owned, service driven financial provider."

Due to the flood of 2011, G E M Federal Credit Union purchased a new building at 2401 North Broadway.  The old building was badly damaged by flood waters and was sold to a restoration company.
